Keep equipment and labor warranties separate

An equipment warranty and an installer's labor warranty may come from different parties and cover different things. Ask for the actual written terms before assuming a replacement or return visit will be free. Gurnee Plumbing Decisions does not issue warranties for a referred business or manufacturer.

Information and referral guidance. For a provider call, confirm the business and address coverage. Our role.

Keep the identifying details together

Store the product model, serial number, purchase date, installation date, invoice, and installer name. If registration is required, ask who completes it and retain confirmation. An equipment label may be difficult to reach later, so ask the installer to provide the details during handover rather than moving equipment yourself.

Read what the terms say about parts, labor, service visits, shipping, and exclusions. A headline number of years does not describe all of those items. Ask whether maintenance records are required and which instructions apply to the installed model.

Know whom to contact first

Record the manufacturer's process and the installer's own follow-up route. If a problem appears, describe it before authorizing a third party to alter the equipment. Ask how another company's work could affect an existing claim under the actual terms. Do not assume that every plumber is an authorized warranty service provider.

Keep a history of the concern

Save dates, messages, claim references, and the response received. A photo or visible error message can help when safely available. Do not bypass a control or keep operating unsafe equipment while waiting for a warranty decision. Safety and claim administration are separate concerns.

For disputed coverage, consult the issuer's current documents and qualified advice as needed. This guide cannot extend a warranty, interpret every exclusion, or promise reimbursement. Its purpose is to make the record complete enough that the responsible party can evaluate the actual equipment and work.
