Find your water service line record

A water service line connects a property to its water supply. Its recorded material can be useful when discussing replacement or water-quality questions, but a map entry is not permission to expose or alter the pipe. Start with the water supplier's record for the exact address.

Use the Village inventory link

The current Gurnee Water and Sewer FAQs link a water service line inventory containing known public and private materials in the Village system. Follow that official link and confirm you have selected the correct property. Save the record date and any qualification shown, such as unknown material or a distinction between portions of the line.

Do not turn an incomplete entry into a definite statement that the whole line is one material. Ask Public Works how to clarify a missing or conflicting record. A private contractor's observation should identify what portion was actually seen and how it was identified.

Keep material, condition, and water safety separate

The material record does not by itself show the line's condition, prove a leak, or establish the quality of water at the tap. Those are different questions. Use the utility or relevant public-health guidance for water safety and an appropriate professional assessment for physical condition.

Discuss responsibility before excavation

If replacement is proposed, ask where the work begins and ends, who is responsible for each portion, and what utility coordination or permits apply. Request an explanation of access, restoration, and any testing or documentation included. Do not dig to confirm a map entry yourself.

Store the inventory result with the repair proposal and any later as-built record. If new evidence differs from the utility record, ask how it should be reported through the official process. This website does not maintain the Village inventory, certify pipe material, or promise replacement funding.
